Well, I am 19 years old, well brought up; I enjoy both being subjected to strict discipline and administering it
I was born in Rhodesia and now am the Head girl at THE WEST RIDING GRAMMAR SCHOOL

I must confess I was pleasantly surprised that you met me for this interview in a uniform, was there any reason for that?
Thompson
There are two reasons actually, firstly people do tell me I look good in uniform, the other is that frankly I feel good in uniform
Miss
Have you always felt like that about uniforms, even when you had to wear those regulation ones when you sat in a classroom?
Thompson
It was always the case, I always made sure I was one hundred percent smart and correct I only wore the uniform pure and simple; short pleated skirt, white shirt, tie, blazer and sensible shoes I even continued to wear white knee socks on my last day and I was the only pupil to wear uniform when we went back for Prize Day to receive our certificates!

So much for the uniforms and their regulations, how did you feel about the rules? Maybe you would comment on some you felt to be a little more petty than the others?
Thompson
I believe all the rules are important, the pettier ones possibly the most focusing They have the effect of ensuring people know their place On occasion though I did slip up, or take a silly risk and paid the price I did though become a prefect a year earlier than was the norm

There are two issues here, but first what exactly did you mean about your appointment as a prefect?
Thompson
Prefects were appointed in their final term, I was appointed four terms earlier, that meant that although I was a fairly junior pupil I had supervisory authority over the most senior girls
